Music and Singing

Music plays a huge part in Christian worship, and has done ever since the days of the Bible.

Both churches use the same hymn book (Ancient & Modern – Hymns and Songs for Refreshing Worship) and seek to provide a balance of traditional and contemporary hymns and songs. As well as the organ, worship at St Luke’s is regularly accompanied by piano, guitar and drums.

St Luke’s has a talented choir which meets to rehearse most Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm in the church. St Mary’s doesn’t currently have a choir, but is blessed by the presence of some singers from Opera North!

Special events take place throughout the year, most notably at Christmas and at Easter.
